Down a long dirt road in Utah is a rugged stretch of ranchland that just may be the strangest place on Earth.
Skinwalker Ranch—also known as the Sherman or Gorman Ranch—occupies around 480 acres in Uintah County, Utah, and is beset by reports of paranormal activity.
The property borders the Ute Indian Reservation and its eerie reputation dates back to native folklore. Amongst the tribe there’s a belief that the area has been tormented for hundreds of years by non-human, shape-shifting beings called “skin-walkers.” To the Utes, the site is cursed, known as the “path of the skin-walker.”
In 1994, Terry and Gwen Sherman purchased the property in hopes of establishing a cattle ranch there. The couple’s first encounter with the paranormal came on the day they moved their furniture into their new home. As they worked, a large wolf appeared in a nearby cow pasture. The animal seemed strangely untroubled by the Shermans’ presence. Then, as quickly as it had come, the wolf bit into the leg of a calf.
Terry grabbed his rifle and shot the animal at close range. But the wolf was unfazed. Terry shot again, then again, yet the creature remained standing. When the smoke finally cleared, the animal simply trotted away—with no trace of blood.
For the Shermans, this was merely the beginning of their strange experiences at Skinwalker Ranch. The family would wake up to find crop circles scorched into the ground near their home; groceries were mysteriously repacked and reorganized throughout their kitchen; once, after a set of bulls went missing, Terry discovered the animals crammed into a disused trailer in a seemingly hypnotized state; another time, Terry saw what he believed to be an RV pull into the driveway—as he approached, the vehicle simply lifted off the ground and flew away.
Disembodied voices chattered at the family in strange languages. Cows repeatedly vanished only to turn up killed and mutilated. After chasing a floating orb of light, a trio of ranch dogs disappeared into the night.
Needless to say, the Shermans did not find the ranch a particularly welcoming place. Every family member had trouble sleeping and, when they did sleep, they were troubled by nightmares. In the morning, the Shermans awoke and discussed their identical dreams. To ease their minds, the family began sleeping together in the main room of the house.
Luckily, after just two years, the Shermans were offered a deal they were only too happy to accept. In 1996, they sold their land and left the property for good.
Just who could be interested in purchasing such a mysterious place? Robert Bigelow, founder of the National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDSci), a privately funded (and now defunct) research organization of ufology and the paranormal.
Let's start with what happened there:
It is said to be full of multi-dimensional UFO/ET/Bigfoot sightings, and other paranormal activities.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. Two years ago, Terry and Gwen Sherman were trying to unload a 480-acre Uintah County cattle ranch they said was rife with UFO activity and other bizarre occurrences....Millionaire philanthropist Robert T. Bigelow came to the rescue, buying the ranch and moving in a team of researchers and surveillance equipment.

What kind of things do go on there?
This 480-acre cattle ranch in central Utah -- also known as Skinwalker Ranch -- was so plagued by UFOs and other strange phenomena that its one-time owners, Terry and Gwen Sherman, were eager to get rid of it. A willing buyer was found in Las Vegas real estate tycoon Robert T. Bigelow because he was intrigued by the mysterious goings-on. He brought in a team of investigators and set up arrays of surveillance equipment to find out what was taking place. Some have dubbed the ranch "the strangest place on Earth."
Here's just some of what was going on:
Unexplained cattle mutilations, and cattle that just disappeared. Ten of the Sherman's cows reportedly vanished.
UFOs "the size of football fields." And in 1980, a rancher claimed to have seen a 40-foot silver sphere on the ground of what later became the Sherman ranch.
Terry Sherman claimed to have actually seen aliens come out of one UFO. "It was a human type, over seven feet tall, decked out in a totally black uniform and very huge, very heavyset," he reported.
Interdimensional portals that were seen to open in mid-air. The Shermans said they saw lights emerging from these doorways.
Floating balls of light, one of which might have toasted the family dogs. The Sherman's three dogs vanished after chasing a ball of light. A circular burn mark was found on the ground near where the dogs were last seen.
Gwen Sherman was supposedly chased by several red balls of light while driving home one night.
(Many of the weird phenomena at the ranch was detailed in the book Hunt for the Skinwalker by Colm Kelleher and George Knapp.)

Another person's experiences with the ranch:
The article is very long but worth the read, I only took a part of it to post here.
I have been to many haunted locations from Stonehenge to the Tower of London to the Bridge over River Kwai in Thailand, but never have I been to a location that has so many stories of paranormal phenomenon. I have been to countries that have unusual paranormal phenomenon like Honduras, Belize, El Salvador, Panama, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, but for some reason the stories from Skinwalker Ranch will stay in my mind. Now let's talk about this adventure.
The stories that stay in my mind about the Skinwalker Ranch are the following. 1. The Gormans that lived on this ranch, came across a bullet proof wolf that was chewing on the leg of one of their calves. They shot at this wolf several times and it merely shrugged off the bullets and walked away. 2. The Gormans saw a RV drive away into the hillside and later morph into a UFO and fly off in the night sky. 3. A NIC scientist witnessed a portal open up in the sky and a Bigfoot creature came out of the portal and ran off into the woods. 4. There has been Shadow People, poltergeist activity at this ranch. So, you can see I am anxious to check it out myself.
Alejandro Guzman of Enterprise Rent-a-car has my car waiting. It’s a 2008 Pontiac G-5 with satellite radio. This car saved our lives and to mark this car into history, the license plate number is 6FBB672. Chantal and I, worked on a nickname for this car. Chantal came up with The Portal, then Portal Potty and finally Portal Wheels. I took her play on names and simply called it The Rift. The Rift, a temporary HPI vehicle for this mission will get us to the Skinwalker Ranch and back. Alejandro was fascinated with my ghost hunting stories and couldn’t wait until I return to give him a report on my findings.
Chantal, Lisa and I, all piled up in The Rift and looked forward to making paranormal history... well, we hope. When you are driving over 500 miles, how do you entertain yourself. By singing along to songs like Sexy Back – Justin Timberlake, All Summer Long- Kid Rock, Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd, Love Train/Backstabber – Ojays. Chantal enjoyed the Backstabber song, because she was pretending to stick a knife into my back and turning it each time the Ojays said the word ‘backstabbers’.
During the trip to Skinwalker, Lisa Hanley tells us how she lived in a home in Galt, it was an old remodeled farm house. She remembers being in bed sleeping and awoke abruptly. The air in the room turned cold. She then saw a man in the mirror, he was wearing a big black hat, black trenchcoat and had no facial features. She could distinctly see the full body apparition in the mirror from 15 feet away.
That was the most scariest moment in this house, other times she has seen shadows dart about here and there. She has heard distinct whispering, when she laid her head on the pillow. On this trip, Lisa and Chantal were like my guardian angels, always on the look out for danger, like when they saw a drunk driver on the road. Or when we were driving through the endless desert road in Nevada, we saw a strange old station wagon. There were animal teeth on strings. The animal teeth on strings were strewn all around the windows of the car. Yes, he had animal teeth as decorations for the interior of his car. The first thing that came out of all our mouths was ‘serial killer’?
